For Medical Professionals
Providing smooth regional collaboration and highly specialized pharmacotherapy
We would like to express our deepest gratitude for your continued referrals of patients to the Department of Medical Oncology at Tohoku Medical and Pharmaceutical University Hospital.
Our department is centered around "cross-organ pharmacotherapy," establishing a robust system that handles everything from standard chemotherapy to highly specialized systemic treatments, novel therapies, and cancer genomic medicine.
Furthermore, we maintain close ties with the Department of Medical Oncology at Tohoku University Hospital, ensuring that cases suitable for highly advanced medical care, including clinical trials, are referred securely and at the appropriate time.
We are fully committed to sharing meticulous information with our collaborating medical institutions to provide optimal medical care for each and every patient.
Referral Policies and Accepted Cases
Accepted Cases
- Pharmacotherapy for a wide range of solid tumors, primarily gastrointestinal cancers, but also head and neck cancers, cancers of unknown primary, and rare cancers.
- Diagnosis and treatment policy planning for cancers of unknown primary and rare cancers
(*For cancers of unknown primary, we kindly request initial evaluation and primary site search within possible limits prior to your referral.) - Treatment selection based on cancer genomic medicine and consideration for inclusion in clinical trials.
- Consultations regarding treatment policies for patients presenting with multiple concurrent cancers.
- Second opinions (confirmation of diagnosis and treatment policies).
Promotion of Reverse Referrals and Co-management
For patients whose treatment policies have been established at our hospital or whose conditions have stabilized to the point where general continuous treatment is feasible, we kindly ask local physicians to accept "reverse referrals."
Additionally, we strongly recommend a "co-management (two attending physicians)" approach, where we handle specialized treatments while local physicians collaborate with us on supportive care, systemic management, and emergency responses.
